If you only want to go partially solar, look at small-scale applications for this energy source. There are two ways to do this. First, find solar panels you can mount on or at windows to recharge portable electronics. The other way is to buy camping tools like lanterns and cooking equipment that is solar powered. Every small thing that you do saves you a little money and helps the environment.
Keep your solar panels out of the shade. It might seem obvious, but your solar panels do need sun. Make sure that you are not installing them in the shade. Trim back the branches on surrounding trees if you need to. Failing to do so could cost you more than half your energy output.

Find out what kind of warranty comes with any system you are considering. A solar energy system should last you for at least twenty years, so be sure the company you are dealing with can support it. If there is no warranty, or an extremely limited one, it may be time to keep looking, no matter how great the savings are.
