Before installing any form of solar panels, be familiar with local rules and regulations. There are lots of places where some permits are required. The last thing you want is to have the system put it and then you are forced to remove it later.

Do not let a salesperson pressure you into purchasing solar panels. A solar energy system is an important investment and you should take the time to compare your different options. If a vendor feels the need to pressure you, they might not be confident about the quality of their products.

Keep your solar panels out of the shade. It might seem obvious, but your solar panels do need sun. Make sure that you are not installing them in the shade. Trim back the branches on surrounding trees if you need to. Failing to do so could cost you more than half your energy output.

If you're interested in a particular solar panel model, determine when this panel was created. There are very efficient modern solar technologies; however, iffy solar energy salespeople sometimes sell old technology. This older technology is more affordable but you will get much better results with a more recent product.
